Recommended Authentic Sutlers

The following are sutlers we endorse for authentic Civil War uniforms and equipment suitable for purchase by Stonewall Brigade members.

General Sutlers

These vendors carry goods from some of the better makers of reproduction uniforms and accouterments, many of those found below in our specific equipment suppliers list.

S & S Sutler
One of the best general sutlers for authentic gear.

Sutler of Fort Scott
Variety of personal items beyond typical haversack stuffers.

Carter and Jasper Mercantile
Civilian clothing, knit goods, household items, groceries, and period food containers.

Regimental Quartermaster
A mainstream sutler, so use caution, but their Campaigner Gear selection is a good place to purchase quality gear from some of the makers we recommend, such as Waumbaugh, White & Co. and Family Heirloom Weavers.

N.J. Sekela **No Longer Endorsed**
On the basis of multiple reports from our members of unfulfilled orders, lack of communication, and questionable business practices, we regret that the Stonewall Brigade can no longer endorse Sekela as a recommended sutler.

The Depot
A new sutler largely selling items produced by N.J. Sekela. Please note, the Stonewall Brigade Staff does not have personal experience with this vendor. If you have experience with them, please let us know.

Offer several different Confederate uniforms, as well as kits, fabric, and supplies.

Richmond Depot
Offers several different Confederate uniforms. Very high reputation for quality.

B & B Tart
Offer several different Confederate uniforms, as well as kits, fabric, and supplies. They also sell blanks – fully assembled jackets that just require the hand stitching (buttons, buttonholes, etc…) to keep costs lower.

C.J. Daley
Excellent pieces, but selection is limited and orders can take awhile to be filled.

W. Hutzell & Co.

The Civil War Tailor
Specializes in Confederate officers’ uniforms and civilian clothing, but also offers custom uniforms, fabric, and buttons.

Beauregard’s Tailor
Authentically constructed Confederate and civilian clothing items based on surviving originals, period photographs, or first person descriptions of 19th century clothing.

K. Windahl & Co.
Although primarily specializing in Federal uniforms, they are also an excellent option for custom orders.

Glenn Courson, a member of the 33rd Virginia, makes excellent belts and other leather goods.

C. A. Davisson Leather Works
Cary Davisson’s excellent and wide-ranging selection of leather accouterments, slings, belts, and suspenders. A great choice if you are looking for a specific manufacturer or style that you can’t find elsewhere.

Merrick’s Custom Leather

Dell’s Leatherworks
Belts, slings, straps, and officer equipment.

ACW Kits
Provides do-it-yourself kits from B&B Tart for cartridge boxes, cap boxes, and bayonet scabbards. A great option if you’re handy with leatherwork and want to save some money.

Sitting Fox Leather
Provides do-it-yourself kits, buckles, tools, and supplies from Cary Davisson for belts, slings, cartridge boxes, cap boxes, and bayonet scabbards. A great option if you’re handy with leatherwork and want to save some money.

Excellent belt buckles.

High quality defarbing services and repairs.

Agents Campbell and Pelican’s Military Goods
Sells original and quality reproduction firearms. Their inventory is constantly in flux, so you may need to check their stock frequently to find what you want.

Blockade Runner
A mainstream sutler, but sells Armisport reproductions of the 1842 smoothbore musket and Enfield and Springfield (including Richmond Arsenal copy) rifled muskets.

Lodgewood Manufacturing
Sells Armisport reproductions of the 1842 smoothbore musket and Enfield, Springfield (including Richmond Arsenal copy), and Lorenz rifled muskets. Also offers defrabing services.

Taylor’s and Company
